Wow  !

Real clean appearing 1995 M - edition.

http://sanantonio.craigslist.org/ctd/2838081985.html

I don't even see wheel weights on the rims or any signs where they may have been on them.

Granted, the radiator color indicates it is about due for a replacement.

Also, is it my imagination, or is one of the inside door panels (driver's side I think) a slightly different shade  .

All in all, a terrific candidate for a sweet daily driver  .

Nate91

7th February 2012, 07:17

looks sweet enough...1800 miles from Jersey...if it check's out...one way ticket & drive or have it shipped? Are you (mx52go) or is anyone close enough to check it out?

ksd

Wow, indeed. I would be all over it if I didn't already have a 95 M.

Just the effect of the flash yellowing out the tan. Beautiful looking car but any buyer should realize it's at a tipping point for a number of deferred maintenance items like a radiator, shocks, fluids and perhaps because of age more than mileage, timing belt/waterpump. It looks to have been very well maintained but now traded it as it approached some fairly significant maintenance items if you had to pay someone else to perform them. If you can DIY, probably $800-$900 for everything to make it a needs nothing car. But, if you have to pay someone else, could be another $1500-$1800 added to the price of the car.

Still, it you could snag it for $6000, do the deferred maintenance, you'd have a really nice driver for not a lot of money in today's world.

Looks like a one owner car. Popped up on Autotrader today as well. Jettison the foglights and you have a very nice looking M. I dig the R trunk spoiler. I think the asking price is reasonable if it shows as in photos. A screaming deal no, but a Southern no rust car has a premium in my book, being from the rust belt.

+ 1. And *IF* the car is as nice as it is presented I think it is a very fair asking price. Not everybody wants to give their cars away and not make a profit.

I am with you, the fog lights got to GO!

ksd

7th February 2012, 12:08

I'm not really keen on the spoiler, but it's not a big deal. If I had the money, I would definitely be trying to buy this car for $6000. I would be happy to get it at $6500, and would even be satisfied at the $6995 asking price if it is as nice in person as it sounds/looks in the ad.

For comparison, I paid $7900 last Spring for my 95 M edition. Mine only had 34,000 miles on it, but it was a northern car and probably wasn't quite as well preserved as this one.

Nate91

7th February 2012, 17:07

In scouring the photo's it does seem really clean and even well cared for - it even comes with the aftermarket 'short' oil dip stick (broken)! - I've spoken with the seller/dealer & also have received additional photo's...

Can anyone recommend reliable carrier services that have been used recently?

I'm thinking San Antonio to New Jersey to be approximately $600?

ksd

7th February 2012, 17:17

$600 would be cheap. I got six quotes recently for shipping a Miata from Salt Lake City to Cincinnati. They ranged from $900 to $1900. The well known, reputable carriers were $1300 and up. The cheapest quotes were brokers who couldn't promise who actually deliver the vehicle, how or when.

I ended up going with Dependable Auto Shippers (DAS). Their quote was $1350 for door-to-door transport via enclosed carrier, and when I called I was able to get the price down to $1250 all in.

DAS scheduled the pickup via flat bed hauler for a 2 hour window, and they were on time picking it up. It was transferred to an enclosed hauler at DAS's terminal in Salt Lake City. It is en route to Cincinnati right now, and I can find out precisely where it is at any time via the web or telephone.

tom4416

7th February 2012, 17:26

Second recommendation for DAS. In many, many shipments, both to and from, they've never damaged the car and never missed a delivery date. However, most of their dropoff terminals look like really scary places so door to door might not be a bad idea.

Nate91

7th February 2012, 17:39

My Nephew's brother ( I guess that make's him a friend) was close enough to check the car out on very short notice this morning-

...from pic's, Face Time walk around, and all reports & inspection it is everything as presented.

thanks for the reco's guys... DAS will more than likely be used... would rather have a reliable carrier and some additional cost than an unreliable/unknown carrier....

Looks like this 95M is sold... to me!

ksd

7th February 2012, 17:46

Congratulations! I love the 95 M editions and I am thrilled that this one is going to a good home.

Also, I second the recommendation of door-to-door service from DAS. It is much expensive than terminal-to-terminal and is worth the premium.

Here is a 3rd recommendation for DAS  !
Last year I had a high end car (long story, don't ask) shipped from Southern California to Houston. I got many quotes, some lower ones & some higher.
I initially went with a different carrier, but they turned out to be rather unorganized and none to professional.
I switched to DAS at the last minute, basically because they had a local drop point (tow yard).
I agree with Tom though, the yard was a little on the dirty side, but they locked the car inside a wall, behind a gate.
It cost be about $1500 to ship the car, using the enclosed transport option.
They also flatbedded my car from the Houston depot to my local repair shop, about 20 miles or so.

Congrats to you! I am glad that the '95 M is going to a good home :D .

What a beautiful car. I would have loved to buy it, but it's too far, and shipping would put it a nose above my budget.

Thanks all. I will be looking into taking a day or two off from work - flying to SAT on Sunday and driving back to NJ through Tuesday...it has been my initial consideration and will be more economical than carrier. Big + is the 'hands on' experience.

Some of the people here have found a round trip ticket purchased when you make your flight arrangements is MUCH less expensive than making arrangements the day you realize the car is not what you expected and now have to get back to NJ without driving.

I was fortunate in the past. I didn't know any better at the time but the cars were as advertised. Now I have a contingency plan when I go long distances.

Sounds like an excellent choice. I had my SBY shipped via enclosed carrier up to Chicago from Ft. Lauderdale, but only b/c of the lack of cruise control (I just couldn't see driving 1400 miles without my right foot falling off along the way).

Much congrats on the purchase.....! :D

Looks like a very nice clean 95M. Congrats.

Just heard of an overturned car carrier with the carried vehicles all over the road last night on I-80-94 right near my house due to black ice. So you "never know".

Life is just one big adventure anyway and it looks like you and the 95M will be having some fun together on your first date. :)

Nate
Congrats
I noticed the open recall on the SAS airbag computer.
As a saftey item the dealer should still fix this for free.
I lucked out and had this done on our 95M even though I had a faulty SAS computer and an airbag light.
Be aware that this fault is that airbag can go off when the car just runs over something in the road and hits the undercarage
again congrats

Thanks again everyone for the feedback & the insights.... I am so excited to be getting a Miata back in my life. Let alone the good fortune to get another 95M. I looked at a decent enough 94 Red/Tan near the Jersey Shore this past Sunday, almost left a deposit, decided not to, walked & next day this one was posted...BINGO! (I'll be upping my membership & making a contribution to Miata.net accordingly!)

I am negotiating with the wife...she's not feeling me driving across the country by myself over the course of 2 days. DAS is looking at about $1200 to get the car to me in NJ. I have a carrier that the company I buy my work vehicles from who has a closed carrier coming from Texas next week, would do it for $800. I want the adventure and hands on pick up.

I am aware of the open recall for the AirBag, had the same issue addressed on my last 95M...dealership did it, no questions asked.

Thanks again all.

Good job! Having driven from TX to the east coast numerous times, I reccomend I-10 from SA east as your safest route. Almost no rish of frozen precip on that route, and actually a nice drive in the deep south. If the forecast is favorable, then its a little shorter and more scenic to come up I-35 to Dallas and go East on 30.

I would DEFINITELY take I-20 over I-10. I lived in the Houston/Austin area for 6 years and I-20 is a much calmer/safer/relaxed drive than I-10 is.

Depending when he's driving, he might hit Mardi Gras, then this whole exercise may become epic...

Then again, I was not impressed with Mardi Gras, when I lived in NOLA, but a yankee boy may like it...

The camera is ready. I am getting psyched for this Miata adventure.

I would DEFINITELY take I-20 over I-10. I lived in the Houston/Austin area for 6 years and I-20 is a much calmer/safer/relaxed drive than I-10 is.

I traveled the Houston Dallas NOLA Little Rock area in the early 80's, was back in NO for some work after Katrina...looking forward to being in the neighborhood this time around, if only for a cup of coffee....

Depending when he's driving, he might hit Mardi Gras, then this whole exercise may become epic...
Then again, I was not impressed with Mardi Gras, when I lived in NOLA, but a yankee boy may like it...

I'll be hitting the road from San Antonio on Monday morning, if I'm not too tired I may get some miles under the wheels on Sunday night...in any event I-20 should be relatively clear of traffic for my pass....

Thanks for the suggestions!

driving Sunday night, Monday - through south west storms, arriving in New Jersey before midnight Tuesday me and my 95M are safe at home.

It's not a needs nothing car yet it is in excellent condition throughout. I got to work my day job ;-) on Wednesday and I have been a busy boy.

It's been given a solid & much needed wheel alignment, will replace the CAS O Ring on Saturday, along with differential, transmission & engine oils. Creating a base line for services.

I'll post more pics in the NA forum when I get the chance.

Happy to be a Miata owner again!
