I'm patient and will wait to find the right car.
I want an unmolested mint low miles survivor. Not red.
Just need you guys to put me in the ballpark of market prices.

I believe one should buy the best condition car they can find.
Buy from the ideal owner, and the model differences take a back seat.
Is this the best way to buy a Miata also?

I have seen 2 NB's that fit the parameters recently.
6x,000 miles asking for $6200.
3x,000 asking $7500.

Are these low, market, or high priced?

I saw this thread where (http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?t=508291&highlight=year)he paid $7300 almost 5 years ago.
Have prices been flat, or should that same car be priced a lot lower now?

The ONLY reason I don't want an NA is the pop-up headlights.
And more HP is always a nice perk.
Am I being stupid by ignoring the NA ?
I am sure a survivor that hasn't been riced out is harder to find.

I have 2 '99s 1 10AE 1 LS. Love them both but the 10AE is special.

I bought my 99 with 42k 100% stock for 7k this past February. Rust free cars here in MI tend to be a bit more expensive. I love the nb1s. This is my 2nd.

Those prices are pretty typical. If I were living in the North, I would make every effort to buy a southern car. Lack of rust and usually better roads ( snow and ice cause potholes ). I chose an NB for the same reason as you. I don't care for the pop up headlights. NB2's have a little more midrange power than NB1's due to their VVT ( variable valve timing ). They also have better headlights and some say the seats are better in the NB2's. The NB1's had some coil issues. If you are considering going turbo, the NB1 is a better choice as it has slightly lower compression. Mostly, though, it's personal preference. Look at both and see which appeals to you more.

Those prices with those miles seem about right. The NB1 ranges from just below $3k for a poor condition but mechanically sound car to $8k for low miles sport package with mx history in perfect condition. Right now is also not the time to buy. You buy convertibles in the winter. I bought my my 99 NB1 in February this year for $3,500 with 99k miles some minor hail damage and fair interior but with a new clutch and top. It is red. Really wanted any color but red but sometimes you have to compromise. I will keep my eye posted in my area. I watch the CL Every day.

Out here on the "no rust!" West Coast, I bought my '02 SE in April... with 74K on the clock, I gave the fella $6,000 for it (he wanted a Jeep!)

Just for reference, I paid $6800 for an '04 Azure package car with 52k miles in the spring of 2014. I live in Michigan. The car was very clean and had never seen a winter. I probably could have got it for less, but my wife really liked the seller's wife and she closed the deal before I got that far!

I few hundred bucks isn't going to make or break a deal for the right car,
and it's all about the right car and seller, but no one wants to overpay, either.

Ok, thanks, so they are in the correct ballpark.
It sounds like I SHOULD be able to get a very clean nice car if I go as high as $7k.
If I go lower from there down to $4k ...for a solid higher mileage driver with some cosmetic issues.

Thank you for the conversation last night...hope I shed some light on the market in this area.

That said...feel free to call me just about any time with questions you may have

Heads up...I did drive that 00SE that we talked about...just got home from the test drive. Call if you are curious.

There are some super low mileage cars selling for more like $10K, but that seems a little crazy to me, unless it is a desirable edition/color. I would say nice/clean/low mileage car for as high as $8K (possibly with HT), with lesser cars down to $4K. Most stuff around here below $4K is pretty rough.

On the east coast in my area the prices are a little higher. Just go to the autotrader site and that will give you a gauge of what the market is in your area. I know what they ask and what they get for the car are two different things but it gives a good starting point. Now if you willing to travel you might find a cheaper deal. I bought my 1999 silver Miata in may of 2014 with 63k for 6,750$ on the road. It has aluminum wheels. Nardi steering wheel. power antenne, power windows, power locks, cruise control and the wind blocker. All stock. It does have the automatic trans which I like. It has no rust but a few shallow dents in the passenger quarter panel and some scratches in the still shiney factory paint. The top is in good shape. Good luck in your search. Do not buy another persons modded junk. Buy a good solid runner that an adult owned.

IMO, the NB has depreciated as much as it's going to. A pristine NA is worth more than a nice NB.

The ONLY reason you won't consider an NA are the pop up headlights? Too bad. The NA is lighter and has a more basic sports car feel. AND it has more room inside than the NB.

I suggest you drive a couple examples of NA and NB before you rule out either.

Also, don't be afraid of buying a Northern car. There are lots of garage queens that have no rust and have never seen snow or rain.

I agree. I don't even want a Turbo or Supercharged car b/c who knows what issues have been introduced, or how badly it's been beat on.

An SE from 00/01/02 will be priced higher than a basic NB, right?
I need to go look up what the SE offers above the base.
How much more does SE add to the price?

Yes on all points.

I am open to the NA, as long as it's not red. All depends on the car.
I would think NA is cheaper since it's almost 10 years older.
But, these cars are ALL dirt cheap, basically.

Most 2 seaters are low miles garage queens. I am exclusively looking in the NY/NJ/CT area to make the search easy. I am, buying 1 of 1,000,000 produced MX5, not a rare Ferrari.

Most stuff around here below $4K is pretty rough.

Yea, not going there. I want a nice car. A garage queen. Worth the minimal difference in cost.

About what should a 2001 SE in MINT condition with 5x,000 miles go for?

lameantelope

21st July 2015, 19:13

If a car has been in an accident or two on the carfax (but was not salvaged) is this a big deal? How much should this affect the price?

For example, a low mileage '02 with under 50k miles would be in the $7000 ballpark.
If that car is now been in 2 accidents, what is the adjusted price?

The 00 SE is a one year only color inside and out...mahogany mica..which is really eggplant purple..5 spoke chrome wheels...side skirts and front lower lip spoiler...trunk lip..Nardi wood wheel, shift knob and ebrake handle...just an all around pretty car..Torsen..6 speed..all the bells and whistles

The 01 SE is the BRG color..

I sold my 01SE with those miles (58k) and close to mint condition for $8250 back in March.

$8500 seems high when I am seeing cars in the $5's and 6's with under 100k miles.
Maybe it's b/c of NA vs NB, which is a lot newer.

These guys are saying $6 to $7. Dreaming?

Once you get to 100k+ miles, then prices are down into the 5's, right?

Well, your specific question above was in reference to an 01SE, the thread you linked to is an 00SE which is a different animal with different issues. I believe my and MrMustangs responses were for an 01SE and would be different for the car you linked.

The car you linked is not unfairly priced for a a Dealer as dealers can typically get more for a car based on services they offer (specifically financing for folks with troubled credit). Obviously it's just an asking price and could probably be bought in the $7500 range.
