Crazy stat in series history
John Reed-USA TODAY Sports
The Georgia-Auburn series has been played 126 times. Georgia and Auburn has tied eight times with the last of those being in 1994. However, Georgia has never tied Auburn at home. All eight of Georgia’s ties to the Tigers have been on the road or at neutral sites.
Success on the road
Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports
The Georgia-Auburn rivalry historically brings out some spirited performances from the road team. In fact, Georgia is 18-12-2 on the road against the Tigers. The Bulldogs have a losing record at home of 16-18 showing that the home team doesn’t always have an advantage in the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry.
Auburn’s last three wins over Georgia all came at home. It is surprising both teams have so much historic road success considering how loud Sanford Stadium and Jordan-Hare Stadium get.
Rivalry future
(Dale Zanine-USA TODAY Sports)
The Georgia-Auburn rivalry is now being played earlier in the season for the foreseeable future. The game used to represent a tough November test for both teams. In fact, excluding the 2017 SEC championship, before the 2020 season Georgia and Auburn had played each other in November every season since 1936.
Auburn no longer has the potential misery of facing Georgia and Alabama in back-to-back weeks. The historic rivalry could be changed again when Oklahoma and Texas join the SEC in 2025.
